Love free from hypocrisy

“Let [YOUR] love be without hypocrisy.” – Romans 12:9,  NWT

Another word for hypocrisy is pretense.

Pretense =

  1. An attempt to make something that is not the case appear true.
  2. A false display of feelings, attitudes, or intentions.

A false form and even display of love, perhaps pretending to love someone to gain something personal from them.

I grew up with, “I need you” therefore “I love you” which is all about the self. Godly love does not look for its own interest,  so that “brand” or version of love is false, and full of hypocrisy. I think there is much false love in our society. It is nice Jehovah God clarifies what love is for us. Since God is Love.  – 1 John 4:16

“Love is long-suffering and kind. Love is not jealous, it does not brag, does not get puffed up, does not behave indecently, does not look for its own interests, does not become provoked. It does not keep account of the injury.” – 1 Cor. 13:4,5

“keeping an eye, not in personal interest upon just YOUR own matters, but also in personal interest upon those of the others.” – Phil. 2:4

“Let each one keep seeking, not his own [advantage], but that of the other person.” –  1 Cor. 10:24

We often hear “what’s in it for me”, what type of love does that breed?

The bible encourages brotherly love and tender affection towards one another. This is based on real appreciation of another’s Godly worth and thus free from hypocrisy!
